Ottoman symbol badge with green background on a 2-layered coated plastic surface.
The Ottoman Empire was a powerful state that existed from the 14th to the early 20th century. The emblem of the Ottoman Empire was created in the late 19th century and features an ornate cartouche ensigned by a tughra, which is a monogram of the reigning sultan. The emblem is surrounded by various elements of the state, including two flags: the red star and crescent flag of the Anatolian and Asian eyalets, and the green flag of the Rumelia Eyalet, largely obscured by a cornucopia.
The symbols in the coat of arms represent various aspects of the Ottoman Empire. For example, the green flag on the left represents either Rumelia Eyalet or Ottoman Caliphate, while the red flag on the right represents Anatolia Eyalet and Asian Eyalets. The elaborate turban above the central shield represents Osman Gazi, who was the founder of the Ottomans, and symbolizes the Ottoman dynasty's throne as the leader or caliph of all Muslims in the world. The elliptical shield with a stylized sun motif in the middle surrounded by a number of stars represents the greatness of the Ottoman state. The weight balance on the left symbolizes justice for Ottomans while the flowers on the left symbolize tolerance for Ottomans.
The emblem also features various weapons that symbolize Ottoman military power, including an anchor that represents the Ottoman Navy and an Ottoman Cannon.
